Buy Me a Coffee lets writers, artists, podcasters, developers and other creators earn money directly from the people who follow their work. A creator sets up a page in a few minutes and shares the link; supporters can then pay a small amount, presented as the price of a coffee, without creating an account. Beyond one-time support, creators can offer monthly or yearly memberships with several levels, publish posts reserved for members, and sell extras such as digital files or one-to-one sessions. The platform takes a percentage of each transaction and charges no monthly fee. It is used by independent creators as an alternative to advertising or to a full subscription platform.

Really disappointing experience with Buy Me a Coffee. I launched a campaign and quickly had several users tell me they were unable to complete their payments. Apple Pay failed for multiple people, and some credit card payments were also declined. This is obviously a major issue for a platform whose main purpose is to collect payments. What makes it worse is the lack of customer support: I contacted them about the issue and have still received no answer. I have no idea how many contributions I may have lost because of these payment failures. At this point, I’m seriously considering switching to Ko-fi, which I hope will be more reliable.
