I've been using Microsoft Office for as long as I can remember, and switching has never really been a serious option — not because I haven't tried, but because nothing else comes close in terms of raw efficiency and familiarity. The big problem: collaboration. This is where Office falls short, and it's a real frustration. The suite was not built for real-time collaboration, and it shows. Working on a presentation with multiple people simultaneously is painful. Google's approach — everything live, in the browser, always synced — exposes how behind Microsoft still is on this front, despite efforts with OneDrive and the online versions.

Pros
  • Unmatched depth and power, especially PowerPoint and Excel
  • Universal adoption in professional environments — no learning curve for anyone
  • Best-in-class formatting and presentation capabilities
  • Industry standard, which makes sharing and exchanging files seamless
Cons
  • Real-time collaboration is still clunky and far behind Google Workspace
  • The online versions are a pale imitation of the desktop apps
  • Switching costs are high — not because the tool is great, but because the whole world is already on it
  • Word is losing ground to Google Docs for everyday collaborative work

Microsoft PowerPointPowerPoint is still king. Google Slides simply doesn't match it. The level of control, the animations, the formatting options — and above all, the fact that everyone in a professional environment already knows how to use it. When you share a deck with a client or a colleague, there's zero friction. That alone is worth a lot.

Microsoft ExcelExcel is in a league of its own. The depth of formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation features make Google Sheets feel like a lite version. For anyone doing serious work with data, there's no real competition.

Microsoft WordWord is solid, though Google Docs is catching up. Honestly, for collaborative editing and async work, Google Docs has become genuinely better. Word remains the reference for formatting-heavy documents, but I'll admit I now default to Docs when working with others.
